Sten Stenson, Vietnam veteran and retired principal, is on vacation in Costa Rica when his tour bus is hijacked. Sten reacts, killing one of the hijackers, and is hailed a hero. Back home, anti-government protestor Sara Jennings is arrested for resisting police at a routine stop. A chance meeting with Sten's unstable son Adam sparks a passionate relationship fuelled by a mutual hatred of the law.
